HCA'S COVID-19 UPDATE

Updated: Mar 21, 2020

This will be an ongoing update, and the most recent news

will be at the top of this page.

Posted on March 18, 2020

Dear friend and family of HCA,

Governor Holcomb of Indiana has just mandated school closures through May 1, 2020. Although Heritage Christian Academy is a homeschool support program, we function like a part-time private school and we have decided to join the current schedule with the rest of the K-12 Educational Community in Indiana and we will also be closed through May 1, 2020. Should that date change, parents will be immediately notified via e-mail and then a statement will be made here and via our social media platforms.

We continue to pray for each and every HCA family, as well as our medical and emergency workers in Indiana and the nation.

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

Psalms 91:1

Dear friends and family of HCA,

Below is a copy of the letter that was sent out to all currently enrolled HCA families and staff, detailing our position and the precautionary measures that we are taking amidst the ongoing COVID-19 spread.

Dear HCA families and staff,

Our goal at Heritage has always been to offer homeschool support and in light of the measures taken locally, statewide and nationally, we feel it is necessary to adapt how we operate. After MUCH prayer and consideration, we are going to be modifying all classes offered at our facility, most likely through April 14, which is when Bethel University plans to reinstate face-to-face classes.

This absolutely breaks my heart, because we've just reached a beautiful place of community and relationship with the students, but unfortunately it is necessary given the current medical climate. In the midst of research and advice, we are opting to modify our class format, not to give in to the fear or hype of the virus, but in medical deference to those elderly individuals that interact with our students and who are the most vulnerable to COVID-19. Medically speaking, children are in the lowest risk category because of the nature of this particular virus. However, children can carry the virus, and even be asymptomatic for the duration of the virus, and still pass it on to elderly relatives or friends. Please note that April 14, 2020 is a tentative return date, and we reserve the right to adjust the date as needed in either direction, depending on how quickly the virus spreads or dissipates.

In lieu of meeting together in person, we will be offering an online portal so that we can still continue to offer classes and readings to the students. All of that information will be

forthcoming as we begin to develop this new format. As many of you are used to homeschooling some of the subjects will be shifted back onto you for Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, we still intend to cover the majority of the materials that we have been providing to them via this new portal. Teachers will still be receiving their normal wage and will be available to you via email to help in any way that you or your student may need - to answer questions, dialogue or to offer supplemental instruction as needed.

Moving forward, we will be canceling classes on Tuesday, March 17 for a teacher work day to give us time to get our new program up and running. Students will not report to HCA that day, but I do ask that you stop by Heritage at your convenience, any time between 12-3pm this coming Tuesday to pick up your child's books and materials that they will need for the duration of our modified program.

Classes will resume via our new online portal on Thursday, March 19.

Login information and details for each child's class assignments will be coming to you soon!

Additionally, we will not be able to attend the theatrical productions of either Click Clack Moo or Wizard of Oz at Bethel, as they have cancelled those productions.

I can't thank you enough for your flexibility as we navigate this completely uncharted territory. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are going to do our best to accommodate and support each family over the next several weeks and we will hopefully have some extra options, ideas, tips, videos and more - to not just sustain our current level of support but to exceed what we've been able to offer thus far!

Over these next few weeks, please know that I am available for individualized curricula consults. As we start the next term in a very unique way, please lean into our program and take advantage of this extra time with your children - and we invite you to participate and learn right alongside them in this new format! Blessings!
