March 24, 2024
Please forgive the tardy post this week! We've been making lots of plans behind the scenes for end of year projects, trips, presentations and more and the time is sneaking away from us!
Below you'll find a personal note from me, as well as upcoming announcements. Enjoy these rainy Spring Days - the seasons are changing!

PERSONAL NOTE FROM MRS. REA
About a month ago, I posted in Band that my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He'll be having surgery tomorrow at Memorial to removed huis tumor, and we're hoping it will put him into full remission. I will be out of the office starting tomorrow to care for him and I will be back on April 15. Please feel free to reach out via email, but please have patience if I don't respond right away! Also, I won't be taking school calls during this time unless it's an emergency. While I'm gone, Ms. Weber is graciously and wonderfully stepping into my role, so please don't hesitate to reach out to her (k.weber@heritagechristianacademy.net).
If you're wanting updates, please feel free to check the out our site for his health updates at:
BOOK DONATIONS FOR AWAKEN CONFERENCE
During the weekend of the AWAKEN conference, our library will be selling used books as a fundraiser! If you have books at home that you'd be willing to donate towards our sale, please bring them to HCA! We are specifically looking for fiction, but any non-curriculum item will do (ie: We don't need textbooks, workbooks/consumables, or Teacher's manuals)!!!
These can be dropped off at either building and you/your child may bring them to the office. We will price them and use all proceeds to support the library and purchase new volumes!
NO SCHOOL LUNCHES APRIL 1-11
Because I will be out of the office and unable to oversee ordering and delivery, we will not be offering school lunches during this time. So sorry for the inconvenience, but we will resume ordering on April 15!
NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, APRIL 8
Please note that HCA will NOT hold classes on Monday, April 8 because our area is in the path of near totality for the upcoming solar eclipse, which will peak just after 3pm. Area schools are also cancelling classes and this is all per the recommendation of the Department of Homeland Security. Classes will resume as normal on 10/9.
FRIENDLY UNIFORM REMINDER
Since Indiana weather can be so fickle, one day students are in shorts and the next, they're bringing snow suits! As the seasons change, please consider this your friendly reminder that students in Cottage School - 8th grade are not allowed to wear open toed shoes (sandals or flip flops) to school - even within the classroom. Hiking sandals with covered toes are fine.
Also, pants cannot have holes or rips - this is a slippery slope and becomes too subjective, so our baseline is clean, unripped pants.
APRIL 12+13: LIVING BOOKS HOMESCHOOL CONFERENCE!
We hope that you're planning to attend Awaken South Bend on April 12-13! This is an AMAZING opportunity to hear from all three ladies at A Delectable Education, as well as myself and Michelle Howard, founder of the Preservation Library movement (and a dynamic speaker!). Through April 1, they're offering a discount code to HCA attendees (AWAKENSB10).
To learn more and purchase tickets, please see the conference website:
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Please take a moment to sign up for our last session of Parent/Teacher Conferences!
On April 3 + 4, students will have a half day and will be dismissed at 12pm (they will NOT eat lunch at school). As before, you'll have a 15-minute time slot with your child's teacher, and you can sign up at the link below!
NEW EXAM DATES FOR TERM 3
We have decided to push UP exams for Term 3 in order to give us a few more days as a buffer at the end of the year for projects, presentations, a Service Day and end of year activities.
Please disregard the dates as listed on the printable school calendar on our website. The live calendar is correct - and the NEW dates for exams will be May 6-14.
NEW HOURS AT HERITAGE MEETING HOUSE
You may have already seen the updates on our social media platforms, but as of this past week, HMH is now closed Sunday-Tuesdays, so our current hours of operation are Wednesday-Saturday from 8am-4pm. Although we are closed to the public, you may still order school lunches on Mondays and Tuesdays!
